The Foundation Edit

With so many foundations on the market it can be really hard to choose the one that’s best for your skin type, right? Overwhelmed by all the different brands and the individual foundations they offer? Then you’re in the right place!

I thought I would take you through some of my preferred foundations that I keep in my kit and talk a little bit about them. Your foundation should blend seamlessly with your skin tone and wear well on your skin, so choosing one isn’t always easy! Here are some of my absolute go-to favourite’s in my bridal makeup kit. They have been tried and tested and time and time again they come up “top marks” for longevity and quality.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation

Medium to full coverage

I love this foundation, it’s easy to apply and gives a beautiful finish to the skin with a great in-between dewy and matt finish. It leaves the skin looking luminous without being too dry and so good for covering those skin imperfections.

  • Longer lasting on the skin, especially if your skin type is more on the oily or combination side.

  • Smooths the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

  • Best applied in two thin layers, the first layer apply with a brush or your fingers and blend well. Apply the second layer with a damp beauty blender and target the areas that want more coverage. Really take the time to press the foundation into the skin with the round part of the beauty blender and use the angled edge to blend.

  • You will need to use a rich moisturiser underneath to give it the perfect base to sit on, it works beautifully with the Bobbi Brown Vitamin E Face Base or Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream.

  • Best to set with a translucent powder and a light dusting all over will set this foundation perfectly, then using a powder puff take the time to press more powder into the areas you find become shiny, e.g the T-zone.

Chanel Vita Lumière Aqua Foundation

Light coverage

This foundation gives a really luminous finish but with a touch of matte in the right areas. It is so lightweight and has a beautiful scent to it. It gives the skin a lovely healthy and radiant glow.

  • Perfect for those who prefer a lightweight finish and feel to their makeup.

  • Ideal for Dry/Normal skin types. If you have combination skin you can wear this foundation but you will need to top up your powder throughout the day to stop becoming overly shiny.

  • Best applied with a foundation brush or your hands.

  • Best to set with a translucent powder and a light dusting all over will set this foundation perfectly, then using a powder puff take the time to press more powder into the areas you find become shiny, e.g the T-zone.

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

Light coverage

This foundation is so, so beautiful! If you want that dewy barely-there skin then this is the foundation for you! It contains light-reflective technology and Meghan Markle is said to be a fan. You can build this foundation, so if you need a little more coverage in certain areas then it is easy to build up the product. If applied with a damp beauty blender then it also wears well on combination skin.

I must confess it took me a little while to figure out my correct shade in this foundation but if you use the link at the bottom of this blog I found it pretty accurate in helping me choose my correct shade.

  • The fluid texture blends beautifully for a natural ‘second skin finish’ and just as the name indicates, it creates fabric-esque silky-smooth results.

  • For a super sheer “barely there” finish then add one layer of foundation with a damp beauty blender.

  • For a longer-lasting finish, this is best applied in two thin layers, the first layer apply with a brush or your fingers and blend well. Apply the second layer with a damp beauty blender and target the areas that want more coverage. Really take the time to press the foundation into the skin with the round part of the beauty blender and use the angled edge to blend.

  • If your skin type is on the dry side, you may not need to set this foundation, but if you are after a longer-lasting finish, you’re best to set it with a translucent powder and a light dusting all over will set this foundation perfectly. Then, using a powder puff, take the time to press more powder into the areas you find become shiny, e.g the T-zone.

Chanel Les Beiges - Eau De Teint

Very light coverage

  • The prettiest tint there is on the market!! Don’t be put off with how it looks in the tube. (it looks as if the foundation has separated). You will need to apply this product with the small brush provided with the product.

  • Lightweight, hydrating and instantly refreshing, this ultra-light formula is composed of 75% water. Created with micro-fluidic technology, micro-droplets of encapsulated pigments melt into the skin on contact creating a radiant bare-skin effect. A blurring and smoothing effect unifies the complexion and a lightweight, sheer coverage allows the skin’s natural beauty to shine through.

  • Pump 3-4 pumps onto the back of your hand, then dot the product all over your face. Using your foundation brush provided, gently blend the product into your skin, making sure you blend well.

  • Once it has dried you could finish with a light dusting of powder or leave it as it is. It gives the prettiest holiday glow I have ever found. It is lightweight, easy to wear, perfect for the summer months and holiday’s abroad.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation

Medium to Full coverage

  • Sweat-proof, humidity-proof, waterproof and transfer resistant.

  • With it’s long-lasting finish this foundation is ideal if you have combination or oily skin.

  • It can smell a bit strange but all the longer-wear foundations I have tried all smell the same.

  • The best longer-lasting foundation I have found for oily skin.

  • The foundation isn’t sticky, it doesn’t dry too quickly and you are able to move it and blend it perfectly.

  • Best applied in two thin layers, the first layer apply with a brush or your fingers and blend well. Apply the second layer with a damp beauty blender and target the areas that want more coverage. Really take the time to press the foundation into the skin with the round part of the beauty blender and use the angled edge to blend.

  • You will need to properly prep your skin for the best results. Prep with appropriate shine control moisturiser and primer.

So there you have it! These are some of my most trusted foundations and I love every single one them. Always patch test a foundation first and don’t ever feel like you should have to buy it on the spot. If you’ve been to a counter to try one of these, make sure you step outside in natural daylight to check you are happy with the colour.
